Searching

Search for keywords

You can search within the entire collection by typing one or more keywords into the search box.

It’s possible to search for:

  • a specific word - by typing a complete word (e.g. plenipotentiary)
  • multiple words - by typing multiple words within quotation marks (e.g. “plenipotentiary conference montreux”)
  • a conference acronym - by typing the acronym within quotation marks (e.g. “warc-79”)

Once you have typed the keyword(s) into the search box, click the Submit button. The list of issues will be updated to display only the issues that include the keyword(s).

To clear the search box and start a new search, click the Reset Search button.

Viewing the full-text results

To view the full-text results for a specific issue, click on the Full Text Results button. One or more boxes containing a brief text excerpt with the keyword(s) highlighted will appear.

To open the complete issue in the viewer, click on the View button.

Refining the search results using filters

Use the filters in the drop-down menus to refine the search results. You can apply one or more of the following filters:

  • Sub-collection
  • Decade
  • Year
  • Language - Note: between 1869 and 1947 the Journal was published in French only

To select and apply a filter, click on a drop down menu for one of the filters.

Then click on one of the criteria listed under the menu. After the filter has been applied, the results list will be updated to display only the issues that fit the selected criteria.

It is possible to refine the search results further by applying additional filters. The search results list will be updated after each filter has been applied.

To remove a filter, click on the X next to the filter label above the list of issues.

To remove all of the filters and start over, click the Reset Search button.

Changing the list view

The search results are displayed in the List Browsing view, which includes a thumbnail image and brief description of each issue.

To change the list view, click on the List Browsing drop down menu and click on one of the options listed under the menu:

  • Iconographic browsing - a mosaic of thumbnail images
  • Condensed list - a list of titles (no images)
  • Timeline browsing - a timeline

Note: To view the full-text search results, you must use the List Browsing view.

Changing the number of search results displayed

By default, the number of search results displayed per page is 20.

To change the number of search results that are displayed per page, click on the Results per page dropdown menu and then click on one of the options listed under the menu.

To navigate between the pages of results, use the arrows or dropdown menu at the top and bottom of the list of issues.

Sorting the Search Results

This can be changed by clicking on the Sort by dropdown menu and then clicking on one of the options listed under the menu.
